Berberol®: Exploring the Potential of the Berberine-Silymarin Synergy

Research shows that berberine with silymarin has better absorption than berberine alone. A 2018 meta-analysis focused specifically on studies examining this combination, and after evaluating 26 studies, only 5 studies on Berberol® were found to be eligible.

Berberol® is the most studied product containing a fixed combination of berberine and silymarin, which enables a much better absorption of berberine and unlocks its impressive potential to improve metabolic parameters.

Effects and Benefits of the Berberine-Silymarin Combination

Berberine, an alkaloid found in various plant parts, has shown efficacy in enhancing lipid and glucose parameters. Nonetheless, its effectiveness is limited due to poor bioavailability, mainly stemming from restricted intestinal absorption.

Clinical research has highlighted silymarin as an effective bioenhancer of berberine. Starting from this assumption, a comprehensive meta-analysis by the University of Bologna concentrated specifically on assessing the impact of the berberine-silymarin combination on lipid and glucose parameters.

A Review of Berberol® Studies

Initially, 26 studies conducted from 2013 to 2018 were reviewed, but after stringent assessment, most were excluded for not meeting the inclusion criteria. Eventually, only 5 randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled clinical trials, encompassing 497 participants, were deemed eligible for the systematic review and meta-analysis. Notably, all these studies were conducted using Berberol®, our proprietary food supplement featuring a patented combination of Berberine and Silymarin.

The results revealed substantial benefits in improving lipid and glucose metabolism. Berberol® significantly reduced total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol while elevating HDL cholesterol. Moreover, a decrease in fasting blood glucose levels signified positive effects on glucose metabolism.

The effectiveness of this combination is attributed to silymarin aiding in the absorption of berberine by blocking intestinal P-glycoprotein, rendering it highly effective for enhancing cardiovascular health.

Unlocking Berberine's Potential

Berberine significantly influences lipid metabolism by increasing LDL receptors and stabilizing mRNA encoding these receptors. It also demonstrates a capability to diminish intestinal cholesterol absorption and activate pivotal pathways for glucose metabolism.

The main challenge has been berberine’s low bioavailability (<1%). However, when combined with silymarin, it showcases potential in enhancing berberine’s absorption and efficacy, offering a viable solution to this limitation.

In conclusion, Berberol®, with its unique berberine-silymarin combination, signifies a pivotal advancement in wellness, providing a natural and effective solution for improving lipid and glucose metabolism.
